Many people want to eliminate superficial (or surface) veins for cosmetic reasons, but there are other health reasons to seek treatment. In the case of spider veins, they seldom cause symptoms or represent a health concern and you don’t need to treat them unless you want to improve your appearance. However, varicose veins are visible signs of underlying venous disease that can lead to serious complications if left untreated. These bulging, gnarled varicose veins are more than a cosmetic problem. They’re caused by an underlying condition called venous insufficiency and often result in leg pain, swelling, itching, unhealing sores and other serious health conditions that can limit your lifestyle.

Central Coast Vein & Vascular specializes in today’s most advanced, minimally invasive, non-surgical treatments for varicose and spider veins. Most procedures take less than an hour and require no downtime so you can continue with your daily routine. The treatment used is determined once we perform a thorough screening and exam. Read on to learn about CCVV’s superficial vein treatments.

VeinGogh

VeinGogh is a state-of-the-art treatment using innovative technology that allows Dr. Spearman to target spider veins with exact precision with fast micro-bursts of controlled high-frequency electrical energy. The energy instantly heats and eliminates vessels dependably and repeatably. The VeinGogh procedure causes little to no discomfort or downtime. The heat that is administered to the affected vessel is distributed using a fiber that is approximately the width of a human hair. The VeinGogh procedure is safe to use on all skin types and only takes a few minutes to complete.

Endovenous laser ablation treatment (EVLT)

EVLT is a minimally invasive treatment that uses heat to close off problematic varicose veins and relieve the symptoms they cause. Using imaging guidance (guided by X-ray images), Dr. Spearman threads a thin laser fiber into the problem vein through a tiny needle and heat causes the vein to close. Once the problem vein is closed, blood will flow through the remaining healthy veins. This is all accomplished while you rest comfortably and you can immediately return to most normal daily activities.

VenaSeal™

The VenaSeal procedure involves the placement of a very small amount of VenaSeal vein glue into the vein through a small catheter. Once the affected vein is closed, blood is immediately re-routed through other healthy veins in the leg. The closed vein undergoes a process of hardening (sclerosis) and will be gradually absorbed by the body. The procedure is minimally invasive and does not require any pre-procedure or post-procedure medication with patients returning to their normal activities right after the treatment.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution or foam directly into the vein through a very fine needle. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and stick together and the blood to clot. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view. The procedure itself takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes. After sclerotherapy you will be able to drive yourself home and resume your regular daily activities. In general, spider veins respond in three to six weeks, and larger veins respond in three to four months. If the veins respond to the treatment, they will not reappear.

These minimally invasive treatments for spider and varicose veins will get you back to an active lifestyle and showing off your legs again with confidence. Contact Central Coast Vein & Vascular to schedule a screening and consultation today.
